In autumn 2004 European Commissioners Jacques Barrot and Danuta Hubner visited three pioneering projects that receive over £2million of GOL administered European funding.

On 6 September outgoing Commissioner Jacques Barrot visited the new London Muslim Centre in Whitechapel and the Hothouse in Hoxton.  After tours of both projects, which provide workspace and training for small businesses. Commissioner Barrot said:

'I was delighted to have the opportunity to visit two very different, but very innovative projects.  This is the European Union at its most relevant, helping people on the ground to help themselves and to create new opportunities'.

Incoming Commissioner Danuta Hubner's visit of 9 November was to the Mazorca Project's new 'Hidden Art' shop off Brick Lane, which provides a retail outlet for micro-businesses in the creative and cultural industries.  While there she met designers and artists supported by the project.

Alex Conway, Head of GOL's European Unit, said,

'We were pleased to have the opportunity to showcase what European funds have delivered in London, and the Commissioners' genuine interest in the projects was evident.'
