Support for Ethnic Minority Businesses

Government Office for London joined Business Link for London and the Small Business Service in offering their support to businesses at their annual 'Meet the Buyers' event.

Organised by Yvonne Thompson of the European Federation of Black Women Business Owners, the day gave businesses an opportunity to meet to those who can provide services, support or supplies to them. For example, a nursery or cleaning company can meet those local councils or businesses that want to buy these services, or talk to training organisations about staff development opportunities.

The day also provided an opportunity to network with each other.

More than 300 people passed through the doors to talk to a varied array of potential buyers and providers who attended. The South London Ethnic Minority Business Association and the Ethnic Minority Enterprise project and several local councils were among the organisations offering practical help for businesses.

The day gave GOL a chance to talk directly to businesses about the range of services and support it can offer.

There were also guest speakers, ranging from an 'inspirational speaker' from America to someone from Business Link, and 'How to do…' workshops running through out the day. These covered procurement, recruitment and business planning, amongst other topics.

The day was a great success and many business cards changed hands.
