Consultation on the future of Structural Funds
 |
In March the Government launched a national consultation
on the future of European Structural Funds. The paper puts
forward a proposal for how regional economic spending should
be focused after 2006, when the current Structural Fund programming
period ends and Europe has enlarged. |
It suggests that in the future, regional economic spending should
be channelled through domestic funding rather than through a central
European pot. EU member states would still sign up to a European
Framework of economic objectives, to promote more and better jobs
and sustainable economic development.
Government Office for London and the London Development Agency
are working together to facilitate the consultation in London. The
LDA will be co-ordinating a London response although people can
also respond direct to the DTI. The consultation closes on 4 July.
The Refugees into Jobs article in this
newsletter demonstrates the significant impact Structural Funds
can have on people’s lives and the wider community.
